Because of the low level of interest in the offer, we would like to clarify the circumstances for the workshop day.

Some Facts before:

The workshops take place in the same venue as the conference and are independent of attending the conference.

Our main idea was to allow JAB attendees with a minimum of additional resources in time and money to get a lot for their business and personal qualification. Our workshops give you the chance to learn new things and get better in certain areas. You learn from professionals in an especially for you prepared workshop.

The workshops are a service from us to the attendees. We don’t plan to make a surplus from the workshops, but we also don’t plan to support the workshops with money from the main conference.

Title: Make your extensions ready for Joomla! 4

Trainer: Allon Moritz, Team Lead for the Joomla! Media Manager

Min. Seats to be booked until April, 1st: 22

Max Seats: 40

Description:

The move to namespaces is one of the biggest changes in Joomla 4. We converted every core extension to namespaces and touched every library file. But we have a BC promise. The target is that an extension developer can keep the same code base for J3 and J4, running it on both systems. How all of that works and what it means for you as extension developer will be illustrated in this workshop.

The workshop is divided into two parts. First I will give a theoretical introduction about the changes we as extension developer are facing and some important backwards compatibility breaks. I will explain our libraries backport and legacy forward approach, keeping full backwards compatibility. Also what for changes we can except till the final version does come out.

In the second part we will together convert your extensions step by step. We will dive into the new aspects of component loading, namespaces and extension structure. You will have to make your hands dirty with your extension on Joomla 4.

The goal of the workshop is that you leave the room with a converted Joomla 4 extension.

Title: JavaScript Fundamentals for the Confused and the Curious

Trainer: Peter Kröner, frontend technology expert

Min. Seats to be booked until April, 1st: 22

Max Seats: 40

Description:

It is a peculiar programming language in many ways, but the most extraordinary fact about JavaScript is that almost everybody starts using it and only then, maybe, comes around to study JS like any other programming language. Many frontend developers simply rely on StackOverflow and jQuery to get the job done. And this approach mostly sort of works!

If this state of affairs sounds familiar (and maybe slightly disconcerting) to you, this is the workshop for you. Together we will search for the historical reasons behind JavaScript's strange nature, demystify the most confusing parts about its syntax and semantics, talk about surviving without jQuery and explore some of it's latest (and greatest) features and libraries. If you know enough JavaScript to get by but want to achieve a better understanding of the language and it's environment, join us for JavaScript Fundamentals - and remember to bring your own questions!
